America is now in the longest period since a state was created/added to the nation (Hawaii in August of 1959). America should come up with a path to statehood for territories and work to move its citizens towards that end so they can be represented in the government. The point of the government is to give voice to its people. Washington D.C. now has more citizens living within its boundaries than Wyoming or Vermont. Likewise, Puerto Rico has been attempting to become a state for several years now. America is a representation of the entire world at this point, and the creation of a 51st state is a promise of growth rather than the feelings of stagnation that exist among citizens now. A 51st state can be a representation of hope for the future.
