Purpose

Administration of Federal Laws governing occupational safety, health, wage standards, unemployment benefits, reemployment services, and economic statistics.

Immigration

As the majority of migrants come to this country to work, it makes more sense to move their tracking and files out of the Homeland Security and into the Department of Labor. It will provide unique data to determine what jobs immigrants are performing, average incomes for them, and may provide other insights. When their visas lapse or fail, this also allows the Department of Labor to go after the businesses that allowed them to lapse, and, if needed, they can bring in assistance from law enforcement should the need arise.
