Universal Healthcare
It is time to create a Universal Healthcare system. This will be cheaper for all, which will reduce the financial strain for medical necessities, and there are plenty of examples of working models in other countries that we can learn from. There is no reason to remove existing health industries, as people may still want privatized healthcare, but the process will need updating.
The government gives grants and stipends to create medical practices and drugs, and then the cost of those same items are given to the American public. So citizens pay for their creation, and then pay for their access at exorbitant fees. This should no longer be acceptable to the 99% of the American population.
Female Healthcare
Doctors need more training to speak with females about sexual issues and menopause. 2/3 of medical training courses have just 1 lecture on menopause. That is woefully inadequate. In fact, the entire medical industry needs to expand its research into the women’s medical world. This is something the Department of Health and Human Services desperately needs to catch up on.
Comfort in the Uncomfortable
A doctor should never express feelings of discomfort about anything the patient wants to bring up. The patient already feels awkward and alone about their concerns. The doctor must be a place of open discussion, and this needs to be practiced. Doctors should practice open communication on difficult subjects to naturalize them. (One possibility might be to have them practice with psychologists or psychiatrists who are likely well practiced in discussing what may be awkward conversations). The Department of Health and Human Services can encourage doctors to follow through on this.
