The Everyday Person

Why are only politicians and the rich running for President? To put it bluntly, being the President sucks for everyone else. It's not a 40 hour a week job, weekends off, hang out with your friends on the weekends and watch tv with your wife and kids in the evening type of lifestyle. It is an all-encompassing endurance check that digs into your very soul. It is a display of your morals, your health, your mental state, your communication skills, it is being everything to everyone, and many want to smile as you fall short of the impossible. And this display doesn't stop at the border. You are a world-wide icon of the more relaxed 'Merica persona and the formal persona of The United States of America. The job is always on call, even on vacation, holidays, dates. For over five years (one term plus campaigning) you are setting aside all of your personal dreams, your career growth, your spouse's career growth, your hobbies, time with friends, special family events. The President chooses to step off their personal marathon in life, while their finish line continues to move towards them, so that they can help everyone else run better in their own marathon. The President is not a job that any average person in America would want to do. Which is why it is time for one of the 99% to stand up and do it instead of another 1%.

It is time for a new day. It is time for a new generation to ascend and lead. The President of America can no longer only work for the rich and the global elite. And as long as the candidates come from those areas of life, it will never change. This nation will never change, unless we change it. Our future will not be different until we make a different choice. It's time for different.

Either We save us, or nobody saves us.

The Best Outcome

Something never done before, and highly improbable, is a President that both political parties choose as their candidate. Yes, this is technically legal, and yes, this outcome stands just next to impossible, but picture the meaning behind this outcome. Where both political parties can agree to work together from the outset of a President's service, a candidate that will listen to both sides for the betterment of the country. A living metaphor of the citizens of America working together, even with different views. A living symbol of the American dream of days long past, and days soon to be again. A living representative of every citizen of these United States, with a focus on "united" once more. It's not illegal, but it's right next to impossible. There is a history of both parties selecting a candidate before, but never for such a national position. So lets look at it from a sense of reality again.

Politicians and Billionaires took hold of the reins for this country, and the Concerns and Issues continue to mount, unanswered. The best possible outcome for 2029 is a pragmatic President that is part of the majority again, an every-day worker who knows how to listen. In today's world, it is impossible to be an expert in every field, at every activity. The President needs to be able to listen to dozens of experts and sift through information successfully. The President needs to know how to find the important information presented to them by experts, think through the problems, and make a choice they can explain which the American people can understand. They need to know how to think, learn, and make an unrushed choice.

Why should the President be Independent from the cores of each political party? Because both parties have turned their backs on America's needs, and neither is standing up straight anymore. They have lied to the American people, acquired a "me first" or "get what's mine" mind set, and have forgotten who they represent. They beg for handouts and money, but fall short when it is time to stand up and assist. Both parties have had control of the White House in the last two decades, and neither is uniting their representatives, forced the tightening of the purse strings of Congress, or assist in the many repairs of our country. Both bicker about how the other is being petty, lying, playing to the cameras, and breaking traditions. Plus, both parties refuse to work with the other, even if it means spiting their own constituents (us). So if neither political party wants to be honest, if neither party is willing to push their constituents interests, than the people's candidate should not come directly from either party's core. The best outcome is an Independent President that both parties can work with.

If we want to prove that both parties need America's citizens more than America's citizens need the political parties, then finally choosing an Independent President may just get that message across. As a collective, social group, America has been enduring what feels like "once-in-a-lifetime" historical events daily over the last decade. Instead of letting these events happen to each of us, we could vote together to create a historical event of our own choosing. We vote together, we stand up together, we reclaim America's voice together.

Either way, America needs a Theodore Roosevelt/Franklin D. Roosevelt mix in this next term. A forceful personality that will not cease building the strength of the masses again. Someone with a strong sense of social justice. Someone who can inspire hope, accept criticism, and listen to opposing council without resorting to anger. Someone who can't be bought. America needs someone NOT in the core of either party as both are falling short of what America needs.

America's voice in Congress again

The President needs to find a way to listen to American citizens, not just their own advisors. This is something that needs to happen at every level of our federal representatives in 2029. This can be done using current means by having members of Congress hold townhalls with their constituents regularly. Congress can listen to the top concerns of those they represent. This can be reported to their Senators so the Senators can organize their concerns. This can then be reported and discussed with the Vice-President and the President. At this point, every step along the way has heard the concerns of those they represent, and together they can direct efforts where it is needed the soonest. This "Return and Report" will encourage the executive and legislative branch to work together in unity to find solutions to current issues, and ensures every voice can be heard regularly. We shouldn't need to yell to be heard, we just need a better ear to listen to us.
